We have heard several times that the Lego kit is not just a toy for children, but can also be used for other purposes. But now we have been convinced of this again by Volvo, which wants to bring autonomous technologies to the field of construction vehicles. The design of such a machine was directly inspired by one of the Lego models - specifically the 42081 Lego Technic Concept Wheel Loader Zeux. Based on the mechanisms and shape of this model, she subsequently designed her prototype of the LX03 self-steering wheel loader.
The LX03 loader has several interesting features - for example, it can carry up to 5 tons of cargo or can make decisions in a variety of situations, including cooperation with human workers. His other advantages include the surprising modularity he learned from his legion type. Volvo only needs to make one or two changes and create a larger or smaller loader, depending on what the customer requires.
It is also no surprise that it is a fully electric vehicle that, depending on the difficulty of the task, can last up to eight hours on a single charge (which means that it should be easily available during a normal working day).
However, the prototype does not indicate that this is a model that should be mass-produced. In any case, it is a success that represents a major step forward in the field of autonomous transport, artificial intelligence and the decarbonisation of the construction industry. And of course, the fact that the LX03 loader was directly inspired by a plastic model made of LEGO cubes has its significant value.
