The Tesla Model S Plaid has become the fastest series-produced car in history. Specifically, this electric car reached a new world record in driving a quarter-mile (402 meters) in 9.247 seconds. At this short distance, the car reached a maximum speed of 244.6 km / h.
Well-known car collector Jay Leno also watched the creation of the new record. The ride took place on the Famoso Bakersfield Raceway in McFarland, California. One of the employees of the National Hot Rod Association also supervised the whole ride, thanks to which the record could be recognized as official.
But there is only one small hook in the whole thing, although Tesla Model S Plaid officially won, if we count the unofficial times (ie rides in which no NHRA was present), then the world winner would be the car Rimac Nevera, which the same he completed the route (ie 402 meters) in 8.6 seconds. At the same time, this means that Tesla will probably not keep this championship for a long time, because Rimac will soon take it over officially.
In any case, second place will be very decent. Compared to internal combustion engines, electric cars have one major advantage, they can accelerate very quickly, which of course means valuable extra seconds.
In addition to speed, however, the Tesla Model S in the Plaid version also surprises with its price. It will be around $ 120,000, which is not much compared to the super-powerful cars of competing brands with internal combustion engines (whose purchase price often attacks the million-dollar mark). So it seems that the only downside, for the time being, is the fact that the company is still delaying the launch of the Tesla Model S Plaid. We are expected to see it in early 2022.
